15 Fun Things To Do This October

It is official, my favorite month out of the entire year is upon us. Cold weather, comfy sweaters, and pumpkin spice has become the theme of my life. If you don't like the fall season, well, that sucks for you (just kidding). This year I thought I would put together a little list of fun things you can do with your friends and family during this beautiful time of year. Autumn is the best time to snuggle up with a good book, enjoy the company of loved ones, and watch as nature transitions into beautiful colors. After doing a few of these, even the strongest of haters are going to have a smile on their faces.

Carve a pumpkin.
You have never carved a pumpkin? Well, you're missing out! Whether you buy it at a store or an actual pumpkin patch, you will have tons of fun making a mess out on your porch while enjoying the cool breeze. It doesn't matter if you have kids or are alone, this is a fun time for everyone. Make a little mess, explore your creativity, and you can even turn those tossed seeds into fun and yummy snacks.

Have a Tim Burton marathon.
Nothing screams fall like Tim Burton movies. These include The Corpse Bride, Edward Scissorhands, Beetlejuice, and so many other amazing classics. Grab some popcorn, caramel apples, and blanket while you snuggle up to these great Halloween movies. Not a Tim Burton fan? No worries, there are plenty of other Halloween flicks you can appreciate. You can go to this site or this one to find other fabulous finds.

National Vodka Day.
Fan of this alcohol? You are in luck! October 4th is National Vodka Day, so enjoy your favorite cocktails with friends and family while you soak in the breezy weather. Maybe even travel to a local distillery to make an entire day of it.

Visit a haunted house.
This is that time of year where the creepy comes out, and we all spend our money to get scared. If you dare, take a group to a haunted house and enjoy the scares. There are usually more than one in any given location, so make an entire month of it. Make a date each week to go out and explore a new area that promises to have you screaming by the end.

Dress up for Halloween.
Whether you are trick-or-treating with others, going to a party, or just handing out candy, dressing up is something we can all do. It isn't just kids who can have fun during this holiday. I love taking outfits I already have and making something fun and creative. You can get some inspiration from Glam & Gore on Youtube or just go to your local Halloween shop for some outfits.

Have weekly game nights.
Since this is the start of the major holiday season, our family always brings back the family game night. Typically, we are too busy most of the year to find a day where we can all get together. With all the holidays, it is a little bit easier to schedule some nights off. Whether it is once a week or once a month, get the family and/or friends together and play some of those classic board games we all know and love.

Bonfire time.
To me, October is by far the best month for bonfires. It is cold enough that the fire feels comfortable but not too cold that you are shivering within two seconds. Plus, the smell of firewood is a familiar scent associated with the fall season. Sip some hot cocoa, make some smores, and warm by the fire as you have fantastic memories made.

Get your twist on.
Music has always been an essential part of my life and always will be. I love having seasonal music play throughout the house during the holiday season. Download some of the classics and have a dance night while howling at the moon (well, the howling part is optional).

Enjoy festivals around the world.
October is filled with festivals if you know where to look. If you are already taking some vacation time, why not stop and enjoy some of the yearly events that are taking place? This includes Oktoberfest, Beignet Festival, New Orleans Film Festival, Crescent City Blues and BBQ Festival, and so much more.

Scent up the house.
Like music, scents bring back amazing memories each year. I love purchasing new candles and playing with different scents in my Scentsy. I usually go for smells like warm autumn sweater, pumpkin spice, and roasted firewood. Find what you like and let the indoors smell as amazing as the outdoors.

Go on a hayride.
Some haunted trails offer this as well as pumpkin patches. Either way, you are bound to have a great time. Whether it is a haunted ride or not, you can easily find a local hayride and enjoy some family fun all month long.

Desserts, desserts, desserts.
To me, the fall season is the best time for desserts. Even if you didn't have a family who made homemade apple pies, you can't deny the delicious smell you envision and the warm house that it creates. Learn a few new recipes and create some lust-worthy sweet treats for everyone to enjoy.

Clean out that closet.
Am I the only person who actually enjoys this? Probably. However, you can play that fall soundtrack, light that scrumptious candle, and take time out of your day to switch your summer clothes with fall items. Spring cleaning is fun and all, but the fall season is just as needed.

Create your own party.
Have a barnyard? What about any area you can rent out? Okay, what about a house? October is a great time to host a fun party where everyone can dress up, go apple picking, and enjoy smores by a fire. Come up with some fun games and create a costume contest. The options are endless, and you are bound to have a phenomenal night.

Take a road trip.
Fall is one of the best times of years to get in your car and drive to new and exciting locations. With nature transitioning, you get the chance to see that beauty close up in exotic destinations. Visit the mountains and forests to see how beautiful millions of trees become when they are filled with a multitude of colors.

What are your plans for October? Do you have any fun events you do each year or are you just staying in bed with a good book all month? Let me know in the comments below, and I hope all of you have an incredible start to the fall season!
