7 Staple Items For Your Wardrobe

Fashion has so many rules that everybody breaks at some point in time. The fact is that most of the laws of style are meant to be broken. With each season bringing new trends, it can be hard to keep up with the latest item we all need in our lives. However, that doesn't mean you cannot be fashionable without spending a ridiculous amount each season.

I believe there are individual pieces that everyone should have in their wardrobe. These pieces are items that can be used multiple ways, look good no matter what trend is booming, and will always be timeless. I'm not extremely knowledgable on capsule wardrobes, but I would assume many of these pieces would be utilized in those as well.

Personally, I love fashion. While I purchase outfits I only wear once (a horrible addiction I'm working on), I always go back to my favorite staple items. We all have pieces in our closet we reach for the most out of everything. No matter what the occasion, the closet staples below are (what I believe) clothes that everyone will reach for regularly. Who knows, you might already have everything on this list!

Neutral Colored T-Shirt
A neutral colored shirt is in almost everyone's closet. Not only is it timeless, but it goes with nearly everything in our wardrobes. You can pair it with jeans, pants, skirts, dresses, or anything else your imagination can come up with. I usually stick with neutral shades like white, black, grey, and navy blue. These colors are going to match almost everything, making them a practical purchase.

Don't know how to style a t-shirt? You can read here five ways to style the classic white shirt for a few ideas. For me, I tend to purchase a v-neck style of shirt, but you can go with whatever makes you feel the most comfortable!

Denim Jeans
Just like the classic shirt, denim jeans will never go out of style. While the shapes and colors change throughout the years, they still come back. The perfect pair of denim jeans can make you feel sexy, confident, and comfortable. You can dress them up or down and quickly throw them on before heading out the door. I honestly don't know what I would do without my favorite pair of denim jeans.

Do you have troubles finding your perfect fit? It can be a bit overwhelming with all the different colors, styles, and shapes out there. To find the right jean for you, head over to this post that gives you plenty of tips and tricks to help on your next shopping excursion.

The Little Black Dress
You know what I'm talking about. That dress that makes you feel like a celebrity. It hugs your curves in all the right ways and is a go-to piece for the fancy events you have coming up. While it technically doesn't have to be black (although that does work well with more events), you should have at least one dress that can be utilized in many ways.

I love a mid-length dress that hugs tightly at the top and flows out at the bottom. It makes me feel the most comfortable while showcasing my body in a good way. I've worn it to Christmas parties, funerals, and birthday parties throughout the years. It is a staple I believe everyone should have in their closet.

Whether you are going for pants or trousers, everyone needs a decent pair in their closet. While dresses are usually thought of for formal wear, we forget that pants can be utilized as well. Again, go for a neutral shade that will go well with everything. I have a pair of grey trousers that I use for meetings and interviews.

You can add a feminine touch by getting a pair of pants that tie at the waist with a bow or belt. I personally love the high waisted flowing pants because they look flattering on almost every body type. You can pair it with a neutral shirt or flirty blouse depending on the style you are going for.

Peacoat or Trenchcoat
I couldn't pick between the two, so I'll let you decide which one you like better. We all need coats to keep us warm, but we also should have one that does a little more than that. Using a jacket as a fashion accessory is perfect in the colder months. It lets you wear items that might be a little warmer without looking like a madwoman.

I personally like either of these options because they pair well with any outfit you have on. The length goes perfect with that little black dress, and it can dress up the shirt and jeans you threw on. I have a grey trenchcoat that has been used and abused over the years (but still gets plenty of compliments every time I wear it).

Cashmere Sweater
You don't know what you are missing until you purchase your first cashmere sweater. The touch and feel of it will make you never want to take it off. A cashmere sweater is an investment that will never go out of style. Not only will it keep you warm, but it also looks chic without trying. Pair it with your favorite jeans, and you'll look effortless.

If you just don't have the money for a cashmere sweater (they can be a bit more pricey), try to get an oversized shirt or turtleneck as a replacement. Both look great with everything and will give you the same feel without breaking the bank.

While t-shirts are great, they aren't always appropriate. You need to have that one blouse that works for interviews, first dates, and brunch out with the girlfriends. That piece that can be worn with a cardigan, leather jacket, or peacoat. While it might not be worn as much as the classic white t-shirt, it will be loved just as much.

I love an oversized white button down as my staple blouse. You can dress it up with a pencil skirt or make it look casual (yet sophisticated) with a pair of denim. Find whatever makes you feel like a boss and treat it with love.
